Reicheru is…
A 21 year old British student from Sunderland in the north-east of England.
She is ‘studying’ English Literature and Japanese at Newcastle University, and is currently on a year abroad (actually!) studying at International Christian University, Tokyo.
She is a fan of anime, manga, languages, books and films.
Her favourite anime series are Dragonball Z, Lovely Complex, One Piece, Gintama, Tenchi Muyo! and Nodame Cantabile.
Her favourite manga series are Bakuman, Skip Beat, Nodame Cantabile and Hana Yori Dango.
She studies Japanese (as previously mentioned) and has in the past studied French for 5 years (but fails epicly) and took part in two 10 week Mandarin Chinese classes, but can barely say “Ni hao” properly. She plans to study many other languages, including German, Spanish, Arabic, Korean and Cantonese Chinese. And perhaps any others she finds interesting.
Her favourite book ever is Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
She enjoys reading Japanese novels that have been translated into English, like Natsuo Kirino’s crime-thriller-horror ‘Out’ and anything by Ryu Murakami or Banana Yoshimoto.
She loves films, and used to work in a cinema. Perennial favourites include ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, Chaplin’s ‘The Great Dictator’, ‘The Wedding Singer’, ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (1986) and too many others to even name. Her favourite directors are Tim Burton and Charlie Chaplin.
Reicheru is currently unsure of her future, however she hopes to be able to write books and articles, translate from Japanese, and maybe even teach English. As long as she can read books, watch films, write and have her anime and manga, she will be happy.
